BOHOL FAMILY VACATION: Countryside Tour

Since this tour is meant for my family, I really planned it for almost 6 months, been through a lot of reading and researching. Good thing all the “a must see places” in Bohol can be found in the net, even a readymade itinerary.
For our Country side tour:
1st Stop: Chocolate Hills

Over the hilly town of Carmen in Bgy. Buenos Aires is where we found one of world’s famous tourist attraction and truly nature’s wonder, Chocolate Hills of Bohol. Named as such, because the 1,776 rolling hills covered with green grass turn brown during summer.
The view deck can be reached by foot through the long stairs up.  The Chocolate Hills complex provide a panoramic view of 50 square km. expanse of the breathtaking chocolate kisses, Oops I mean hills. T

2nd Stop: Bilar man-made forest

We passed through the beautiful  Loboc – Bilar man-made forest. It’s a 2 km. stretch of asphalt road set in between towering mahogany trees. The temperature suddenly drops inside this rain forest.
3rd Stop: Butterfly Sanctuary

About 5 minutes away from the Mahogany Forest is where the Simply Butterflies Conservation Center is located. This center aims to protect and preserve the natural environment of the butterflies by means of research, breeding and releasing. With an entrance fee of P15, you will be educated by an in-house guide who will present to you anything you need to know about butterflies and its conservation. This lecture is a must before you get your close encounter with the butterflies. This tour is really educational. (sabi nga ng mga pamangkin ko, as if nag ffield trip lang daw sila)
4th Stop: Hanging Bridge

Not far behind, we get to cross a hanging bridge made of woven bamboos and  indulge in the scenic view of Loboc river. At first, I was kinda hesitant kasi naman talagang nakakalula plus nakakahilo din. hehehe
4th Stop: Tarsier Place

Our hot day was just beginning, so we took off to see the famous tarsier. Measures 4 to 5 inches and is considered as the world’s smallest primate. Its size is no longer than an adult man’s hand and weigh only about 113 to 142 grams or four to five ounces. Much like the owl, the tarsier can rotate its head 180 degrees in each direction. Tarsiers are nocturnal creatures, like the owls – sleeping during daytime yet very active at night.

5th StopProny the famous Bohol Python

Just a few minutes away, between rough road and off to the woods, we were welcomed  with the biggest surprise of the day, Bohol’s largest snake in captivity at a mini-zoo in Alburquerque. The living python, Prony, weighs 300 kg and measures 23 feet. The python named Prony is Albur's star and has known to the people as "Live Anaconda of Bohol."
We were too late to witness its feeding time, where I heard a piglet was served lunch a la carte
We don’t want to meddle with Prony’s siesta though, so we just visited its friends, owls, eagles and the monkey na mahalay, (promise, mahalay talaga sya, naabutan sya ng mga kids na naglalaro ng…)
Back in the city...We dropped by at the famous Blood Compact Site.

Sandugo (Blood Compact) Shrine, is a monument built to commemorate the first treaty made by Spanish explorer, Miguel Lopez De Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna to seal their friendship through tribal tradition.
Bohol has a number of very old churches, dating back to the early years of the Spanish colonization. That’s why hindi talaga nmin pinalampas na bisitahin ang mga ito.
1st Church to visitBaclayon
Look at this photo below, embossed is the picture of Padre Pio in the church wall.

The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Baclayon is considered to be one of the oldest churches in the Philippines. Next to the church is the old convent, which also houses a small museum with centuries-old religious relics, artifacts and other antiquities, dating back to the 16th century.

2nd Church to visitDauis

Another beautiful church in Bohol is the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Dauis, on the Island of Panglao. The church's patron saint, the Virgin of the Assumption, is said to possess miraculous powers. An old legend relates that once, when the town was invaded by pirates, the people of Dauis locked themselves into the church. However, they soon ran out of provisions and water. Then a miracle occurred: a well appeared at the foot of the altar. This same well is still the main source of water for the people living close to the church, and, although the well is only a few meters from the sea, the water is absolutely fresh. The water is said to have healing powers, so, if you're visiting here, don't forget to bring a bottle and take some home.

To summarize, we were all captivated with Bohol’s charm and an excellent display of visual thrills. It’s something we Filipinos can truly be proud of. Bohol offers both historical and natural winder. My family and I really enjoyed our vacation, the warmth of boholanos let us feel at home. Nice tropical weather plays perfectly for the beach lovers.

Doljo Beach: REVIEW

Doljo Beach is located at Barangay Doljo, Panglao Island. It lies on the northwest side of the island and at its very tip. It is 15 kilometers from Alona Beach; 35 minutes by outrigger boat and 10 minutes away by car.
It is much nearer though to Momo Beach at Tangnan which lies on the same side of the island. The beach is only 20 minutes ride away from Tagbilaran City.
The 3km beach is relatively unexplored and undeveloped, wide and with white sand that stretches so far out and the sea bed slopping gently towards the deep. It is fringed with tall coconut palm trees which add much to its tropical look.

The place is noted for its beautiful and exquisite seashells. With calm, deep and clear waters and the sea bed free of sea grasses plus myriads of colorful marine life, it is a favorite hang-out of local folks.
Further out to the sea of Doljo Beach can be found some beautiful dive spots: the Doljo House Reef and the Doljo Point dive site. Different kinds of corals and multi-colored fishes abound in the area. Diving and snorkelling in the area is a good alternative when the Habagat wind is strong at the Alona side.

Bohol, in my opinion, is one of the best tourist spot in the Philippines. It is home to many natural beauties like mountains, rivers, forests and animals. Not to mention, the people of Bohol are warm and friendly. So, if you want a real good time, to relax, chill out and forget the busy life at the Metro, then Bohol is one of the top choices.

Red Palm Beach Resort: REVIEW

Our stay in the said resort is actually a BLESSING.
Despite of having a last minute booking, yeah, you read it right, last minute booking.  (From my previous blogged re My Bohol Travel Planning and Itinerary, you can see there that I had the preparation over 6 months; from the places to go, down to our accommodation). Now, speaking of accommodation, originally I had my reservations na at Whites and Greens (WAGs) but then, after reading and hearing some negative feedback's I decided to scout for another place to stay. (Since this is our first out of Luzon trip, I wanted it to be something worth remembering).

Good thing, an officemate referred me to our fellow officemate who happened to have a vacation house in Doljo, Panglao. According to him, the resort is nice, but the word nice can have so many definitions!
So honestly, I don’t know what to expect kasi they don’t have website pa. Good thing, the owner (Mr. Rodrigo Polentinos) is very accommodating. I often would email Sir Boy and he'd definitely reply minutes after. As first time "Bohol go-ers" that alone gave us an assurance that our stay would be OK.
Another plus is calling me a day before our arrival in Tagbilaran, to confirm our arrival. He also reminded us that there'll be a van assigned to pick us up. These kind gestures of the Red Palm owner makes you realize that getting their services is a wise choice. I scouted and emailed nearby resorts and they'd definitely charge more.

Now, the moment we arrived, I know I am home. The resort brings a feel of a province life, a slow paced life I have been looking for. Upon our arrival, the owner welcomed us like as if we are a family members. Then our lunch was served and prepared in front of the beach, cradle on green trees and a few walk would lead you to the white sand and clear water of Doljo, Panglao!

We occupied the two newly built cottages and saw how the staffs prepared for our stay.

Upon entering the room, you can smell a sweet scent, the towels are all new and good quality, not the usual kind of towels that you can have when you’re on typical beach resort.  The place is worth of every cent you pay. Our room has a big comfort room (I love the lababo and the shower, their water is not maalat also compare to the other resorts); our bed is queen size, which can accommodate 3 adults. They also have a big cabinet and I love it as it is! No messy luggage’s scattered at the floor. They also have a LCD cabled television (kaya sobrang saya ng mga kids’ kasi they won’t miss out SpongeBob and Mr. Bean daw. The rooms are very nice and complete.  Then my three teenagers na pamangkin naman, spent time in front of their laptops and use the resorts free wi-fi!

The staffs were friendly and even told us to approach them in case we needed anything. Tapos one of my pamangkin wasn't feeling well that time sinumpong sya ng asthma nya and one of their staff went to town and bought medicines pa.

Overall, It’s a good place to stay for those on a budget... In the morning, the beach was more fascinating! It was low tide and sea creatures are all around such as sea urchin, star fish, small crabs! Everything was great.

We were there to bond, swim, tour, talk, eat, play, wrestle with each other and sleep! Life! That’s how you define nice! That’s how we like it and the feel of a home away from home we found – right there and we will surely come back!

To those interested to book at Red Palm Resort you may contact the owner Mr. Rodrigo "Boy" Polentinos at mobile no. 0917-879-1273 or email him at rcpolentinos@yahoo.com
